Manual Parameters

Gestures of showing. Gestures of grasping. Gestures of holding. Gestures of giving. Communication can take place in many forms.

Our hands are remarkable universal instruments. There are certain gestures, such as the gesture of showing, which are understood in all cultures and which we use throughout our lives. If we are in a foreign country whose language we do not speak, we try to communicate with the help of gestures. The hands form the objects and actions we mean. We use our hands to illustrate our words. All over the world there are hand signals that have a fixed meaning. They have grown culturally and must therefore be learned like spoken language. These gestures have often been passed on, sanded down and clarified over generations.

The selection of images makes visible the variety of this tool of communication, which is so important for us.
